Help & Advice for all things VELUX
VELUX window maintenance
Once your new VELUX windows have been installed, it’s important that you care for them properly. This involves ensuring that they are regularly cleaned and any parts, such as the air filter, are maintained.
Snow, ice, and condensation can all affect the lifespan of your window. If you notice that snow and ice are building up during cold weather, you need to ensure that it drains well once it melts. Ensure that this water drains off from the roof and doesn’t get caught around or on the window.
If your window is located in a bathroom or kitchen, keep an eye out for condensation. If you notice condensation forming regularly on the window, it’s a sign that you should ventilate it more often. This will help to prevent any on-going damage.

How to choose the right VELUX window

When should I replace my VELUX windows?
Our customers often ask us about when the right time to replace their VELUX windows is. There’s no perfect answer here, but there are a few signs that you might need to. If your roof windows are over 20 years old, it’s wise to start considering replacing them. At this age, windows lose a lot of their insulation and energy efficiency.
Older windows can also be less secure and have other flaws that can lead to leaks and cause damage to surrounding areas.
Newer models of VELUX windows are extremely energy efficient and provide unmatched insulation in roof windows. They let in more light too, whilst also having more advanced sun screening and ventilation technology. The range of available VELUX window models is always increasing as well, so you might find that a newer window better matches your design vision!
